Preparing for our PCT thru-hike has been going a lot smoother than we anticipated. Over a year ago I remember sitting in our Denver apartment silently wishing we could hike the PCT. I didn’t want to say it aloud, even to Jake because we had just moved to Denver a few months before. Colorado was a 3 year plan. We were going to take time to explore the city, mountains, & beer. Our jobs at the zoo were going just fine, life was good. But something was missing. The day that Jake said it aloud, “Why don’t we hike the PCT this year?” I felt both excited & anxious. It had just been my secret distant dream, but now it was his too. We realized that hiking in 2017 was never going to happen, we didn’t have enough money saved up.
Fast-forward to our move to Tucson, AZ in March of 2017 in order to save money. Moving to Tucson, we knew we could save enough money for the trail but we didn’t have much of a plan beyond that. We have a lot of people to thank for allowing this next thru-hike to happen. From my parents taking care of our dog for 5 months, my sister driving us to the trail & helping us with packages, the people who have donated to the organization we are raising money for during our hike, http://www.crowdrise.com/hikingheals , the words of encouragement & excitement from family & friends, and everyone who takes the time to read this blog. Our dream is to keep on living life as simple & as true to ourselves as we can. So we thank you for helping us achieve that dream.
